INTRO

look 10 sums up the collection in a nutshell. pretty much. i'm focusing on one look to complete in a 2-week window, and the rest will follow.

i chose this one to begin with because it incorporates techniques that will be used across the whole group (screen printing, grommet pressing, hair braiding, etc.) and will provide a central design language for the rest of the drop. it also arguably has the most to-do (as of nov 09 when i am starting this blogpost) as i do not have a fabric for the top or artwork or printing supplies (or skills or experience) so i should probably nail this stuff down in order to provide a solid foundation in the execution of everything to follow.

one week ago i started this project. i have one week remaining to pattern, sew, complete and shoot the look. i like this pace and structure, perhaps i can carry out the rest of the looks one week each and finish this thing in 10 weeks like school.

monday/tuesday 11/10 and 11/11 status:

  • tee pattern: my existing longsleeve pattern was made for a higher stretch fabric so it'll prob come out small. i will make first mockup and increase from there

  • needs white waffle - sourced tuesday 11/11

  • needs artwork, see options below:

for the skirt!

  • needs pattern
  • hair braids

    • need more hair for the whole thing prob, can use the hair i have for the purposes of this exercise tho

the hair braid charm is meant to be about memory, reference to keeping a lock of a loved one's hair or a child's hair for sentimental value.

the hair in the above photograph is plastic and came from a ponytail extension that was part of the costume i wore for my first halloween in la when i was 19 and we went to the club i had my first kiss and everyone was so sick for days.

so yes, memories.

  • waistband: self facing or source silk? silk prob nicer esp since this fabric crocks a lot, will save skin from turning blue ok yeah use silk fuck i have to source a silk by like tomorrow ok ok - update, sourced 11/11

  • black invisible zipper - sourced 11/11

see my list of stuff before and after shopping

wednesday 11/12/25 update:

  • got a job and committed to a freelance gig before i got the job offer so now i accidentally on purpose have like 3 big things to work on simultaneously with deadlines so that's awesome when it rains it pours ig but i'm lowkey like how am i gonna do everything but. rock and roll once again

  • mocked up sleeve yesterday! i like this but i want the grommets closer together by 1/4" and to follow the distance from hem as yellow ribbon (pink placement is too low)

the picot edge ribbon is nostalgic for me, i feel like it was a common trim for arts and crafts in elementary.

this butterfly charm was gifted to me by @poesy while visiting them earlier this year. i had just got a call that my grandmother had passed and i saw the charm at a street vendor in ktown and they immediately bought it for me. the joke the rest of the day was "hey do you want me to buy this for you?? you know.. since your grandma died"

guess that's as good a way to end it than any. i have to go to work now. keep the pace.
