In the gallery text, there’s a quote from Ray: “‘I see great archaic and classical sculpture as contemporary… ancient art not as an ideal or as an emissary from the past.’” This is what I’m drawn to: the idea that aesthetics is/are capable of reaching across time & compressing it.
