The overarching question of _why River_ is going to continue to bug us until it is blatantly obvious. One approach for attempting to identify that _why_, is becoming obsessed with anyone who is interested in trying River. So far the most organic invite requests have come from Twitter.
People making the effort to reach out and use the platform is a signal to me that there is something compelling to them about the platform, and or their perception of the platform as highlighted on social media.
Getting to the root of that motivation is one strategy towards identifying a _why_. I’m becoming more and more confident that the _why_ is not something we dream up or create in a vacuum.
Additionally, understanding who these people are and what relation they may have to us or one another is crucial. For instance, are they [Are.na](http://Are.na) users, or had they previously had interest in Public Assembly?
In part this strategy is making the assumption that at some point we will have an a-ha moment. But one thing we do have going for us is at least there exists a playground to draw interest and create conversation. Even if what we deduce is something as simple as the fact that people are looking for a new place to accrue social capital, we can at least decide to orient ourselves towards or away from that mission.
