Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar Finished a day before the year’s end. Kaveh Akbar’s first novel, he is a known poet and that really shows in his writing. Full of beautiful monologues and one liners that make you think, I found myself taking moments to digest the feelings and connections in his words. There is a lot of perspective switching which can make it feel disconnected at times, I think I just needed more time with certain characters. The plot twist felt unrealistic, but it did surprise me. 4 stars
