My Brilliant Friend: 4/5 - Do I think it’s the best book of the century? No. But I do think it portrayed girlhood perfectly. - The writing incredibly captures the pain and shame that lies beneath jealousy. - hetero-optimism: mentioned - I love when he calls me brilliant too :)

Life for Sale: 2.5/5 - challenge for japanese male writers: try not to objectify women - was an easy, silly read despite the dark themes - banana yoshimoto save me!!!!

Autobiography of Red: 5/5 - my first Anne Carson, you guys weren’t lying this shit was gas!!!!!! - tender, melancholic, torturous, erotic - not quite poetry and not quite a novel, she creates her own category that offers lyricism and plot to be deliciously uncovered by the reader
